Dr. Valerie Scelsa is passionate about creating a warm and supportive space where children, adolescents, young adults, and their families feel heard and empowered. Dr. Scelsa incorporates a variety of evidence-based treatments into therapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). She also works with parents who are struggling to support their children exhibiting anxious or defiant behaviors, using approaches such as Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) and Parent Management Training (PMT). Dr. Scelsa believes in working collaboratively with clients and families to identify strategies that meet each individual’s unique needs.
Dr. Scelsa earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Miami University, where she trained to work with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, private practices, and community mental health centers. Most recently, she completed her postdoctoral training at Westchester Anxiety Treatment Psychological Services, where she provided individual therapy and parent coaching for clients with anxiety disorders and OCD, as well as co-occurring conditions such as ADHD and other behavior disorders. She also has clinical experience treating depression, trauma-related disorders, and body-focused repetitive behaviors (e.g., trichotillomania).
