EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Therapy is a space to step back from daily demands and look closely at what is and isn't working in your life. When we experience overwhelming stress, a distressing life event, or trauma, the brain can sometimes struggle to process that information. Instead of becoming a memory that belongs firmly in the past, the experience remains raw, vivid, and easily triggered in the present.

We don't believe in one-size-fits-all treatment. EMDR is a highly structured, research-backed therapy designed to help your brain resume its natural healing process. We work collaboratively to understand your specific history, strengths, and goals, tailoring the pacing of EMDR to ensure you feel firmly grounded, safe, and supported at every step.

How it Works

Activating Natural Processing

We look at how your brain inherently heals. During an EMDR session, your therapist will guide you through bilateral stimulation—typically using side-to-side eye movements, gentle alternating taps, or auditory tones. This rhythmic stimulation activates both hemispheres of your brain, mimicking the natural processing that occurs during REM sleep, allowing your brain to safely "digest" stuck emotional material.

Bypassing or Enhancing Talk Therapy

Insight is most powerful when the nervous system catches up. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require you to describe a painful event in granular detail or talk about it extensively. Instead, we target the specific feelings, physical sensations, and negative beliefs (like "I'm not safe" or "It was my fault") that are bound to the memory, transforming how they feel today.

Restoring the Mind-Body Connecction

Targeting the root distress held in the nervous system and body.

Generalized Anxiety, Panic, & Phobias | Chronic Stress & Burnout | Persistent Feelings of Low Self-Esteem | Deep-Seated, Unproductive Behavior Patterns

Comprehensive Care Under One Roof

Human problems rarely fit neatly into a single category. You might seek EMDR to process an old trauma, only to realize that navigating your current relationship dynamics or an underlying eating disorder is complicating your day-to-day healing.

Because PPG is a multi-specialty group practice, our EMDR therapists don't work in isolation. We have testing specialists, eating disorder experts, child and family clinicians, and psychodynamic therapists all on the same team. When complex needs overlap, our providers consult with one another behind the scenes—ensuring your care is seamless, comprehensive, and coordinated without you having to start over with a new practice.
